'Dog Bless You' Campaign Gives Service Dog to Injured Soldier for Every 5,000 Facebook Likes

An internet campaign dubbed "Dog Bless You: To Champion the Selfless Acts of Animals" is running from May 30 to July 4, aimed at helping veterans suffering from debilitating pain and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Life is difficult for injured veterans living with PTSD, and dogblessyou.org is hoping that gifting a service dog, or a "man's best friend", will support the troops. For every 5,000 Facebook likes, the charity is gifting a dog to a veteran soldier with PTSD.

Charlie Annenberg Weingarten, Los Angeles-based filmmaker and philanthropist who founded explore.org and Dog Bless You, wrote: "The mission of explore.org is to champion the selfless acts of others, to create a portal into the soul of humanity and to inspire life long learning. What is the easiest way to do this? Through dogs - they see our souls like no other. That is why as we build Dog Bless You, I believe that its mission should be to "champion the selfless acts of animals."

The service dog, which is highly trained, listens and looks for any signs of distress and helps with physical tasks, such as stairs.
 
Weingarten said "It's interesting because the way we deal with PTSD is strictly on a medical basis. But really what's missing is love and belonging."
